The UU Society of Wellesley Hills is an accredited Green Sanctuary congregation. In an era where Climate Change has become a threat to how lives are lived throughout the globe, our adoption of sustainable practices of living and committing to environmental justice have become paramount.
In recognition of over 10 years since our accreditation, and of the immense changes that have occurred during that time, we look to the UUA’s Green Sanctuary 2030 Program to inform how we move forward to honor our commitment to living sustainably.
We are currently enrolled in a plastic collection program with NexTrex, with three collection bins placed around our campus–two are outdoors to allow for unscheduled drop-offs. The program challenges participants to collect 1,000 pounds of plastic within one year. If successful, we would receive a bench made from composite plastic to commemorate our achievement. Our challenge will end January 2025, but our commitment to collecting and recycling will continue beyond that.
