SUNDAY WORSHIP 10:30AM ONLINE & IN-PERSON

Lay-Led Learning

UU Wellesley Hills is a hub of learning. Sermons and readings during Sunday worship services, and clergy-led weekday sessions such as Buddhist Meditation, offer congregants a time to reflect on diverse spiritual perspectives along with personal and societal issues. Congregation members often volunteer to extend the reach of our ministerial staff to help us delve more deeply into issues and cover an even wider range of topics. There is an open invitation for us to share our knowledge with each other and with the wider community of seekers.

Congregation members lead small groups to support spiritual growth, using materials chosen by clergy. These “small group ministries” allow more intimate exchanges regarding deeply held beliefs and exploration of new spiritual territory.

Over the past several years our UU Wellesley Hills Social Action Council has chosen and facilitated discussion of a wide range of topical “Common Read” books which expose readers to new perspectives. Recent books have given us a window into housing segregation, gender identity, and Indigenous history, culture, and perspectives on the natural world. Social Action Team volunteers also coordinate “Just Desserts” programs. [Add link]

Sometimes our members offer short-term workshops based on their own special interests and expertise. “How to Build a Binder” has recently provided practical advice and encouragement to a significant number of attendees who are concerned about how to plan for a time when we are not able to manage our own affairs—what documents to prepare, and how best to store and share them. We deeply appreciate the knowledge and experience that our members bring to our community.
