Our Social Action Council is dedicated to promoting “justice, equity, and compassion in human relations,” one of the principles we Unitarian Universalists hold dear. Currently the Council’s members represent different teams focused on particular social justice issues or initiatives. Sometimes our teams lead volunteers in concrete actions, such as cooking for soup kitchen guests of Bristol Lodge, collecting snacks for LGBTQ+ youth at OUT MetroWest gatherings, or getting out the vote. We work to inform, educate, and advocate—pursuing actions such as ones that raise awareness regarding racial injustice, the worsening climate crisis, and the plight of homeless migrants in Massachusetts, or marshal support for LGBTQ+ rights. We support and collaborate with other local, national, and international UU affiliated organizations in fulfillment of our mission. UU Wellesley Hills also maintains longstanding relationships in support of Camp Starfish (where we have undertaken renovation and building projects for many years) and of Family Promise Metrowest.
The commitments we make to social justice are central to the mission of this congregation, which calls on all of us to undertake “just and responsible action” and lead “lives of compassion, purpose and hope.” In fulfillment of that mission, all of UU Wellesley Hills’ Sunday plate collections benefit charitable organizations; our recipients are designated by the Social Action Council.
