Our UU Wellesley Hills Social Action Council chose the theme of International Outreach for our April plate collections, and this week’s plate collection will benefit our Transylvanian Partner Church in Torockó, Romania. In recent years, we have collected funds to supplement the minister’s salary to insure that he receives a living wage; he only earns $587 per month from his congregation. This year he has asked that we purchase a new laptop for him instead of wiring cash. Martón is currently using a 2013, hand-me-down laptop which we gave him when he visited here in 2017. As minister, Martón functions as the administrator for his large congregation, with his wife as his assistant. They rely on their laptop to help manage church programs. Since quality equipment is not readily available in Romania, we hope to deliver the laptop this summer, when nine of us travel to visit Transylvania.
To donate, use the “Give” page on our website or if you send a check to the church office, be sure to write “TPC” on the memo line.
